“I like found footage movies, but Blair Witch Project and Paranormal Activity were two great disappointments. Cloverfield and Cannibal Holocaust, though, were nice surprises.”
Ummm… no, in fact I agree with the opposite of this. Blair Witch was one of the original ‘found footage’ films, what has followed can owe itself to the credibility of Blair Witch, the overall style. Paranormal Activity was just boring, no solid story, no structure. Cloverfield, I’ll agree had a nice ‘hand held/found footage’ feel to it and I thought it was a good film but again, these came after. To say they are better is fine, but don’t be saying that if you don’t know that respects are paid in such films due to Blair Witch and other early films like it.
Cannibal Holocaust came before Blair Witch, which stole many things including the markting as real gimmick. Cannibal Holocaust is the original, Blair Witch just added boredom.
That’s a bunch of bullshit. Older does not instantly mean better. Cannibal Holocaust is a really ridiculous movie that had its time in the sun, nowadays it’s a sad example of how much do people think that the “shock effect” is the most important part, right there with Human Centipede and similar gross out films, over, you know, something that could make it interesting. At least A Serbian Film was well made.
Blair Witch Project at least tried to put forward an interesting twist, and it used an ingenious trick for marketing. It isn’t like it’s the only movie that’s used that card.
Blair Witch Project was overhyped, way ridiculous (it fell FLAT) and what was the twist again? No, sorry, not enough. It’s the Paranormal Activity of 1999.
Cannibal Holocaust was WAY more than just ‘shock’; you have to be an idiot not to notice the question it poses about ‘who are the real barbarians’. Hell, they even say it at the end of the movie.
Yup, just like A Serbian Film has a deep political message and The Human Centipede is an epic of madness. It isn’t really the focus of the film.
You guys try too hard. But whatever, everyone’s entitled to their own opinions.
