Depeche Mode - Barrel of a Gun
I’ve been a Depeche Mode fan ever since I had the chance to listen to their album “Ultra” back in 1997, despite not being a fan of their earlier works - some exceptions, of course. It might be because Dave Gahan finally decided to take on some singing lessons (true story), or because it’s the point where they started being less new wave and more synthpop. Nevertheless, since that album i’ve been keeping tabs on their new releases, though I think that initial impact was never really replicated with any of their other works.
Cited by an incredible ammount of artist as influences (including Raymond Herrera from Fear Factory, Trent Reznor and Crystal Method… and goddamn Shakira of all people) Depeche Mode is a band worth listening… if you can get over the sexual overtones, the rampant BDSM and the Dave making out with the microphone live.
Then again, that might just be half the reason of their fame. (And if Trent Reznor likes them…)
